For over 11 years Tia Chucha’s has served as a sort of paradise for the community amid the chaos that often grips the outside world. Here is a house of love where what abounds is not violence or greed but books and the infinite possibilities of the imagination. 10 years ago I walked into this place uneasy in my own skin, timid and silent to my own soul’s song. Through literature, arts, and the meaningful relationships developed here Tia Chucha’s has since served to ignite and nourish the core of my being. It is here where my love for the arts and my thirst for knowledge and wisdom crystallized into a way of life.
Seeking to capture experiences like mine Tia Chucha Press released Rushing Waters Rising Dreams: How Arts Are Transforming a Community. Edited by Denise M. Sandoval and Luis J. Rodriguez this book was funded in part by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. Rushing Waters is Tia Chucha Press’ first non poetry book and documents 20 years of arts development and growth in the North East San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles – the second largest Mexican- American community in the U.S.
Saturday, February 23 from 1-6pm Tia Chucha’s will host its 12th Anniversary Celebration. Rushing Waters Rising Dreams and all other new books will be sold at a 10% discount. All Tia Chucha Press books will be sold at a 60% discount. Your purchases serve to directly fund and guarantee the continued existence of Tia Chucha’s dream of community empowerment. Please come celebrate with us and support the transformative power of grassroots cultural arts centers!
