Tia Chucha's Book Club was first established in 2018, under the name of Social Justice Book Club, in hopes to engage community members in literature that reflects their stories and challenges systems of oppression in a safe environment. The book club came about in the way that many of our programs have. At Tia Chucha’s, residents and participants often propose, help create and facilitate programs based on community interests and needs. In 2022, the book club was renamed to Tia Chucha's Book Club. Tia Chucha's Book Club meets once a month to discuss a book chosen collectively by current members. Our book selections have included genres in history, poetry, fiction, memoirs, mental health, feminism, and more.
Currently, Tia Chucha's Book Club meets on the first Saturday of every month virtually through the online communications system Zoom and has connected many people from across the United States to engage in conversations that matter. For more information please email jackie@tiachucha.org
