Tia Chucha's receives generous donation!

Tia Chucha's Centro Cultural & Bookstore, a community arts nonprofit, is honored to receive $5,275.08 from prisoners at California State Prison, Los Angeles County (Lancaster) "B" facility. The men often raise funds for nonprofits in the community with prison-supported fundraisers. Our co-founder and board president, Luis J. Rodriguez, has been teaching writing, speaking, doing poetry readings, and healing circles in prisons, jails, and juvenile lockups for 38 years throughout California but also around the United States as well as Mexico, Central America, South America, and Europe. He has been teaching off-and-on at Lancaster State Prison (CSP-LAC) for over ten years, most recently as part of the Alliance for California Traditional Arts. Tia Chucha's also received a two-year Arts for Justice Fund grant to administer "From Trauma to Transformation" program working with incarcerated men and women, formerly incarcerated, and youth through our Young Warriors program to help end the school-to-prison pipeline. This is part of our effort to help change the narrative and reality of mass incarceration through the arts. We thank the men of B Facility at Lancaster State Prison as well as the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, in particular the prison's Community Resource Manager, Ms. Ericka Lake and her staff.
