Christine Vega Ph.D.
Board Member
Christine Vega, Board Member, Assistant Professor is a first-generation, Chicana from Pacoima California. She was exposed to Tía Chuchas (TC) as a young person organizing alongside other young people is the Northeast San Fernando Valley. She volunteered, temporarily worked, and participated within the TC workshops, danza Mexica, and events. She credits the TC community for her early exposure to cultura, arts, and healing, which has deeply shaped her spiritual and academic trajectories.
She earned her Ph.D. from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Graduate School of Education and Information Studies. She is a #transferproud student from Los Angeles Mission College, with B.A. 's in Chicana/o & Women Gender Studies from UCLA, and an M.Ed. from the University of Utah. She is the co-founder of Mothers of Color in Academia de UCLA and the Chicana M(other)work Collective, organizing to support parenting people working within and outside the university.
Currently, Christine is an Assistant Professor of Chicana/e/o Studies at San José State University. Her research and community work centers Motherscholars, parents, Activisms, Spirituality, Transformational Counterspace(s), and grief positivity.
