Position: Lil' Readers Storyteller
Position Type: Seasonal Employee
Pay Rate: $30 - $50 an hour
Location: Sylmar, CA.
Work Week: Part Time, flexible 3-6 hours per week, when program in session on seasonal basis
Duration: Immediately until the completion of the program.
Language: Bilingual Required - English/Spanish
Immediate Supervisor: Bookstore Manager
Lil' Readers Storyteller needed for non-profit bookstore/cultural center in Sylmar to head the Lil' Readers program. The program is bilingual and multicultural story time program for families with little ones ages 0-5. The Storyteller will be responsible for developing the program curriculum and facilitating in-peroson sessions at various community locations and onsite. Additionally, the Storyteller must understand Tia Chucha's mission and vision, and become familiar with programming and events.

Assist with Lil' Readers program development, including developing a curriculum centered for 0-5 year olds and their developmental needs

Curate new multicultural book selections for the Lil' Readers program, including bilingual books

Translate children's books, curriculums, activity instructions, etc.

Assist with planning and facilitating Lil' Readers sessions, including activity, book giveaway, special guests, and more
-
Assist with outreach, through social media, partnerships, and off-site events

Develop a budget and provide a list of needed materials

Facilitate a creative (art, music, dance, theater, etc.) activity in relation to the book being read

Connect with caregivers, families, parents, children and being whole cognizant of caregiver/ child dynamics, family support and boundaries

Facilitate seasonal story times and/or workshop for larger crowds at offsite/onsite events (30-100 people)

Research latest findings on children's literacy development

Knowledgeable of quality child development, children's literature, and all aspects of programming, outreach, and collection development for Children's Services

English and Spanish bilingual verbal and written communications skills required

Experience with researching and developing curriculum for children's multilingual literacy programming

Effective organizational and time-management skills

Work collaboratively with other agencies and maintain good relations with community partners and outside agencies

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

California Driver's License, reliable transportations and good driving record

Valid vehicle registration and insurance

Initiates a course of action, develops relevant new ideas, and acts with confidence
