Olivia Ruiz
Lil Readers Storyteller
Olivia Ruiz (she/her/ella) is Tia Chucha's Storyteller for the Lil' Readers program. Born and raised in Oakland, California, she received her BA in Sociology from Smith College in 2015 before embarking on a winding career path through legal advocacy, organizing, and technology. She moved to Los Angeles in 2020 and the San Fernando Valley in 2021 and ultimately ended up where she always wanted to be: working in children's literacy and recreation. Currently, Olivia teaches Folklórico and coaches soccer across the valley, and is a volunteer piano player at the Kaiser Hospital. She uses her experience in dance, sports and music to reinforce literary, emotional, and social concepts important to children's cognitive and physical development. To her, literacy is about more than just reading, it's learning how to express and share what is meaningful to us.
