John Cantú

John Cantú, Board Member, is a filmmaker who’s specialized as an editor in theatrical film marketing since 2006, and is currently employed at Universal Pictures’ in-house creative team, Inside Job. Numerous pieces he’s edited have gone viral and received industry awards recognition.
His work with Tia Chucha’s started as a volunteer videographer for several years. In 2012, he directed “Rushing Waters, Rising Dreams: How the Arts Transform A Community”, a companion documentary to the book edited by Denise M. Sandoval, Ph.D and Luis J. Rodriguez.
John again collaborated with Luis in 2017 on a video for “Love Poem to LA”, scored by Quetzal Flores of Grammy-winning East LA Chicano rock band, Quetzal, and then 2018, when his screenplay adaptation for Luis’ short story, Miss East LA, was put on as a play directed by Hector Rodriguez at Little Casa in Boyle Heights to sold-out performances.
John has also directed numerous other projects including music videos for LA-based artists, the majority of which he first met at Tia Chucha’s celebrations.
