ARTS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (FOR STUDENTS) - ELIGIBILITY

Who is eligible for the la county arts internship program?

2024 Arts Internship positions will be open to currently enrolled undergraduate (2 or 4-year) and community college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County. Recent graduates may apply as long as they have completed their degree between May 1 - December 1, 2024. The Department of Arts and Culture encourages eligible students from all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as disabled students, to apply. Eligible students may participate in the program only once.

Note:

  • Students who have already earned a BA, BS, or a higher degree are not eligible for the Los Angeles County Arts Internship Program.

  • Students who have previously participated in the program are not eligible to participate a second time.

  • Students must posses the legal right to work in the United States.

  • Students who are invited to participate in the program will be asked to provide verification of eligibility via college transcripts, driver’s license, and other documents to show enrollment status and/or LA County residence.

Bookstore intern

DESCRIPTION

The Bookstore Intern will gain knowledge and first-hand experience regarding how a nonprofit arts organization with a small business component brings resources and access to an underserved community. Supervised by the Bookstore Manager, the intern will provide administrative and project assistance to Bookstore staff. The intern’s primary responsibilities will relate to assisting with the creation of an updated business plan, grant research, and outreach/marketing support for Bookstore, providing opportunities to broaden skills important to nonprofit sustainability such as relationship-building, writing, and small business development. This position will work approximately 30-40 hours a week from July through September.   
 

QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred applicant will have strong research, writing, communication, organizational and project management skills. Be able to work with a team as well as independently and focus amidst a great deal of activity. Be proactive, enthusiastic, resourceful, detail-oriented and mission-driven. Have proficient computer and internet skills, particularly with Microsoft Word and Excel, Google tools, and various forms of Social Media including but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and web design experience is a plus. Be available for occasional evening and weekend hours, as needed. Must have access to their own working vehicle, valid driver’s license and auto insurance. Must be able to represent themselves and Tia Chucha’s with confidence, and maintain the utmost discretion working with confidential material.

Program Intern

DESCRIPTION

The Programs Intern will gain knowledge and first-hand experience regarding how a nonprofit arts organization functions to develop cultural arts programming for an underserved community. The intern’s primary responsibilities will relate to helping organize cultural arts workshops sessions along with assisting in program outreach and social media. Supervised by the Program Coordinator, the intern will provide administrative and project assistance to the programming staff. The position will be approximately 30-40 hours a week from July through September.
