Yaire Barboza

Bookstore Intern

Yaire Barboza (She/They) was raised in Pacoima/Pakoinga, on Fernandeño Tataviam-occupied lands. She earned her bachelor's degree in Native American Environmental Studies with a minor in Environmental Ethics from Cal Poly Humboldt, located on Wiyot territory. Since returning to the San Fernando Valley, Yaire has been dedicated to restoring human relationships with Mother Earth, protecting our more-than-human relatives (animal kin), and standing in solidarity with Indigenous stewards in their #LANDBACK efforts. Her work is grounded in decolonial perspectives informed by abolition and Indigenous/Black feminisms. Yaire is committed to challenging colonial, americanized narratives by uplifting stories by “California” Native peoples and communities of Abya Yala through expanding book offerings at the bookstore. In her free time, she enjoys bird-watching, exploring the outdoors and contributing to the political visual art scene.
